I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD
“There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which enlightens everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.”
John 1:6-12
Have you ever been in a hotel room, or in an unfamiliar home, and stumbled around in the dark knowing there must be a light somewhere, but unable to find the switch. In this opening passage from John’s gospel, we are introduced to John the Baptist. He turns up just in time and says, “Ah, you’re looking for the light? It’s right there.”
At Relationship 180 we often find ourselves working with people who seem to be stumbling around in the dark. They want to find the light … they are looking for hope … they are asking for direction amidst their darkness. And these are the journeys God invites us into. We help them discover and understand that it’s possible to break free of the things that keep them in the dark, and uncover and illuminate what’s real, whatever the cost.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
We don’t have to be the light; we help them see the light and point those who are stumbling in the dark to the true light … Jesus.
- He is the Light!
